Konga Beat Update and Game Launcher Coming Soon!

Heya folks! It's been about a week and some change since the launch of Konga Beat, and I've honestly been blown away by the response. BagelBug has already done some incredible work in Konga Beat, and I highly encourage everyone to check it out if they haven't already.

Coming Soon: Konga Beat Update

I'm working on an update to Konga Beat that should address some bugs and usability issues people have been experiencing. I expect the updated build to be available in the first week of December.

If anything needs urgent fix or update, please let me know in the comments here or on the Konga Beat forum.

Also Coming Soon: A Donkey Konga Launcher

I know loading custom tracks other people have made can be laborious. For that reason, I've been working on and off over the last week on an application to simplify the process: Konga Launcher.

You can even fill a playlist with tracks already in your copy of the game! (Work-in-progress screenshot of Konga Launcher)

As far as setting it up, you tell the launcher where your Dolphin directory is located, feed it your copy of Donkey Konga 2 or 3, and that's it! You're good to go.

Once you're situated, you can add custom tracks to your library and make playlists with up to 33 songs (the game's limit). Hitting the play button will load songs from that playlist into the game and launch it in Dolphin. You can also ask the launcher to grab songs already in the game and use them to create a playlist, as shown in the screenshot above. If you're happy with your playlist, you can even export the game with those tracks as an ISO to load on your GameCube. To reiterate: like Konga Beat, you still need a copy of the game to use Konga Launcher, as it does not contain any contents from either Donkey Konga 2 or 3.

With all that said, I want Konga Launcher to be accessible from pretty much any computer that can also run Dolphin, so I'm working on making it available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. I aim to have a beta build available in December, but I may have it ready sooner.

Konga Launcher doesn't currently integrate with Konga Beat. However, I will consider adding some interoperability in the near future to allow custom track authors to load their projects into the game faster.

In Summary:

In the next few weeks, Konga Beat's updated build and Konga Launcher's beta build will be available for download.

Konga Launcher will be a standalone app that makes loading and managing custom tracks easier. It does not require Konga Beat, but you will need Dolphin and your own copy of Donkey Konga 2 or 3.

Have a great weekend!
